FAQ Toner Cartridges
Why purchase remanufactured toners?
Remanufactured ink cartridges are commonly the best choice for your MFP. The original fabricator of the product re-fills the ink and tests the product. Purchasing these from an authorized seller results in money saved and less damage to the environment because the material is being re-used. The savings on an individual toner may not be much, but it does add up to a significant difference.
The process for a remanufactured toner cartridge is comprised of inspection and restoration of needed parts. This may include the drum, wiper blade, primary charge or magnetic roller. Quality of these replacement parts will not affect performance of these products.
We are also dealers for Imagemate products, including Imagemate Cartridges, Imagemate Toner and Imagemate Ink.
What are imaging supplies?
Ink cartridges, ribbons and ink toners are all products that fall into the imaging supplies category. Before purchasing any of our top quality items, be sure that your application with fit. Aside from choosing the correct part, it will likely be helpful to know the often confusing difference between toners and cartridges. While to the novice it seems like the same product, there is actually a distinction. Simply put, ink is liquid and toner is powder. The use of each will depend on whether the printer, copier or MFP is laserjet or ink. Laser uses toner, while inkjet uses ink cartridges. A major distinction between the two is how the color is set upon the paper.
Toner
Cyan, magenta, yellow and black are the toner cartridges which are used for laser MFPs. The powder inside the toner is what creates the text or graphic. This extremely fine polyester powder from the toner fuses to the paper after these particles are heated. Because these particles hold a static charge, they are able to easily adhere to the surface.
Ink Cartridges
Inkjet printers use ink cartridges, which hold a liquid material. There are actually two types of ink which are used in these cartridges. One is dye-based and the other is pigment-based. The former contains a liquid with dissolved "colorants," while the latter embodies liquid and a fine powder.
When a print job is in action, the print head makes contact with the paper and distributes the ink by way of miniature droplets. These droplets create a specific design based on what is programmed to printed. Cartridges can usually be refilled with a kit. If you find ink that is dried on the print head, it likely means there is a low level of ink. Use distilled water and cloth to remove the dried ink.
Before you actually receive a cartridge, the box will be moved in different positions. This will definitely occur during the shipping process. If the cartridge is upside down for an extended period of time, the ink will gather on the opposite side of the exit point. In order for the ink to work in the device, the material must be absorbed into the sponge. This is why cartridges should always be stored upright prior to inserting into printer or copier.
Importance of Recycling Ink and Toner Cartridges
The number of used cartridges which are disposed of in the regular trash is overwhelming. Millions are discarded every year, making their way to landfills. With a small amount of effort, these parts can easily be recycled and reused. Aside from the ink or toner itself posing a threat to the environment, the plastic construction is a hazard as well. This material decomposes at an extremely slow pace. It can take hundreds of years for this plastic to breakdown. What happens then? The material will remain in a landfill for centuries. This is not an exaggeration.
Additional information to know about recycling imaging supplies:
Over a billion inkjet cartridges are used throughout the world every year but less than 30% are actually recycled. Each year, over 300 million inkjet cartridges are sold in the country and 70 million laser cartridges are sold. Not only does it take over 400 years for a laser cartridge to decompose. Recycling these units will greatly reduce the negative impact on the environment.
